Ectropion & Entropion / Dacryocystitis – Eyelid and Tear Duct Disorders

(By Netram Eye Hospital, Nagpur)

What are Ectropion and Entropion?

-Ectropion

Outward turning of the eyelid, exposing the inner eyelid. Causes tearing, irritation, redness, and risk of infection.

-Entropion

Inward turning of the eyelid, causing eyelashes to rub against the cornea, leading to pain, irritation, and corneal damage.

Both conditions are more common in older adults but may occur due to scars, trauma, or congenital factors.

What is Dacryocystitis?

Dacryocystitis is an infection of the tear sac due to blocked tear ducts, causing pain, swelling, and excessive tearing. Left untreated, it can lead to abscess formation and chronic eye infections.
