Visual Field Analyzer / Perimetry

1. What is a Visual Field Analyzer / Perimetry?

A Visual Field Analyzer (VFA) is a diagnostic tool that measures the full horizontal and vertical range of a patient’s vision. It detects blind spots (scotomas) and helps in early diagnosis of glaucoma, optic nerve disorders, and neurological diseases.

2. Why is it important?

Changes in peripheral vision are often silent and unnoticed. Early detection of visual field loss can prevent permanent vision loss, especially in conditions like glaucoma.

3. Who should undergo visual field testing?

  • ● Patients with glaucoma or ocular hypertension
  • ● Individuals with neurological conditions like stroke or brain tumors
  • ● People with vision changes or unexplained eye symptoms
  • ● Routine monitoring for high-risk patients

4. How is the test performed?

  • ● The patient looks into a machine focusing on a central target
  • ● Lights are flashed in different areas, and the patient indicates when they see them
  • ● The machine generates a map of visual sensitivity to detect blind spots
  • 5. Are there any risks?

The test is non-invasive, painless, and safe. Some patients may feel slight fatigue during longer tests.
